I am the Treasure of the Sangha
Paragraph 13.6.1
The Sangha is not a privileged class or elite. It is open to everybody all the time. It should remain an open space where everyone can mingle without regard to gender, class and wealth. That space is for those who seek a way to live a truthful life by exerting unsparing efforts to fully practice and absorb the Dhamma. Seekers of truthful life would at some time during their current existence or the next life become members of the Sangha. Simply timing differs.

Paragraph 13.6.2
In a sense, your giving alms to the Sangha as a layperson should be interpreted as laying and cementing the ground for your entering the Sangha sometime later. Seeds sown now will germinate for flowering in the next life, thus bringing proper benefits. Each of you will definitely take a decision to renunciate householder life and to seek a final solution, Nibbana, in future. Therefore it will be beneficial and important for you to lay a strong foundation to understand and practice the Dhamma in a correct way.

Paragraph 13.6.3
The reason why I urged you to think "I am the Treasure of the Sangha" is simply because you are not different from the Sangha. This attitude suggests that you also duplicate the Sangha's special training arrangement during summer and winter retreats to settle in a quiet place in mountains and practice. You could do it at your home. You make a vow to accomplish a certain goal during that time, like reading the canon, meditating, or praying. If today's sermon resonates to you, and you pledge to seek a truthful life and to practice the Dhamma, that will do. In doing this, you would better start with things connected with your normal life style and establish a concrete and practical vow to execute. If you do this year in and year out, thus cementing a basis for the future, you are treading towards the Buddha's goal. This is the real and meaningful way for you as a lay person to live now and here. In conclusion. I would like to sincerely urge you to take a concrete and firm step along the way during this season with a belief in mind that ‘I am the Treasure of the Sangha’.
