To Sit Means the Middle Path
Paragraph 6.2.1
To sit means the Middle Path
These days there are lots of places where techniques of sitting on the floor are taught. You, therefore, may be familiar with posture and breathing techniques. They are universally practiced by Hindus, Qigong and Yoga school trainees as well as Western mystics. Any meditation based on the techniques of such universal nature, however, can not be said to be as same as the Buddhist one.

Paragraph 6.2.2
Then what makes the meditation of Buddhism different from others? Buddhists do not sit for meditation with an interest at Hindu yoga or health benefits. A firm resolve to know the Dhamma is the prerequisite for Buddhist meditation. In other words, when you sit with a proper appreciation of the training path which the Buddha teaches - the Noble Eight-fold Path, then your meditation training deserves to be called the Buddhist one. The Eight-fold Path is, in other words, the Middle Path. And sitting with such an attitude is also the Middle Path.

Paragraph 6.2.3
Training necessarily requires sitting on the floor in order to gather mind. Humans can either stand, sit or lie down. Standing leads to active state of mind while lying down leads to too static mind and sleep. On the other hand, sitting represents the posture of the Middle Path.

Paragraph 6.2.4
Standing, while full of activity, lacks serenity. Lying down brings tranquility but shows weakness in activity or wakefulness. Sitting is good for keeping both lucidity of mind and serenity at the same time. That is why we all sit on the floor.
